In a move reminiscent of first grade line hopping. Florida is contemplating holding it's primary in January. Just so it can claim the attention of the candidates and the media.
Florida is now expected to hold its presidential primary on the last day in January 2012, a move likely to throw the carefully arranged Republican nominating calendar into disarray and jumpstart the nominating process a month earlier than party leaders had hoped.
Instead of following the proscribed calendar Florida seems intent on making sure it is first for the candidates in the Republican race.
"If Florida decides to go in January, they blow the RNC planned calendar wide open and we'll be back to campaigning over the holidays as Iowa and New Hampshire hold their presidential caucus and primary in early January," said Michigan National Committee member Saul Anuzis, who is on the RNC's presidential nominating schedule committee.
This will cause chaos as other states vie to also change their dates to earlier in the year in a search for electoral relevance.
Connelly said that if Florida moves into January, it would provoke a stampede to the front of the line as each state tries to maximize its influence in the process.
