I am packing to leave to my parents' home tomorrow. I had a million errands to do and laundry and dinner and taking care of others. I just sat down with a glass of wine-I need one: Conservative Hubby is cheering on the idiots debating idiots, and I am trying to avoid listening too intently. So, I am on my second glass and hoping they shut up soon!
Back to my real life here-My parents have a home at the beach that they have decided they have to sell. My mom's health is such that she is no longer able to be there, so they are reluctantly selling the condo. Dad is going for one more trip to Ocean City, MD to gather up a few more personal things before it is put on the market. Since he will be gone, I am going to be at their home to help take care of Mom.
It is hard for Mom, as she is as social and mentally with it as she has ever been. It is her body that has her trapped, so she is unable to make a trip for anything that would require her to stay overnight someplace. She needs staff to help her physically to get ready in the morning and to get settled into bed at night. And she needs someone in the house with her to help her move from one room to the next.
In the meantime, I have just heard Ron Paul say that he does not appreciate people thinking that conservatives are not compassionate-him, in particular. He was emphatic that social programs are not constitutionally mandated, and they should not be provided for by the federal government. Michele Bachman tried desperately to avoid saying she would not deport illegal residents, but cracked a bit (trying to sound compassionate) when relenting a titch when saying there might need to be some consideration for families who have lived here and have been law-abiding and have children. (Ya think?) Mitt Romney side-stepped a question about whether he is a Teaparty member. Rick Santorum trashed FEMA, even as FEMA is helping to clean up the terrible flooding here in PA. Rick Perry referred to Hilary Clinton on a first name basis-"Hilary told me...."-not Mrs. Clinton or Madame Secretary-just Hilary. It is a very sad debate when Newt Gingrich actually sounded as if he had some sense!
My head hurts, and it is not from the wine. Come on in and have a drink. This is an open thread. Feel free to discuss your day or your day to come. Feel free to gripe or be happy-or anything in between. Welcome!
