I have been a member of Daily Kos since September of 2011. I am getting the lay of the land and trying to make some intelligent comments here and there. I do not know who said it originally but I believe in the saying "Become part of something bigger than yourself." and I think that amending the constitution and overturning the Citizens United decision is big enough to warrant not only my attention but the attention of every American citizen.
But first a little background.
One of the reasons I decided to become a lifetime member of Daily Kos is that it is an excellent resource to get to the bottom of things, understand the issues and be part of the solution rather than the problem.
When I go to sites like the Huffington Post and Politico I have noticed that the communities are for the most part people disagreeing with one another. I am learning that there is a large segment of the population that just disagrees and I do not think that is productive use of time. There is standing up for your position on a particular issue and then there is telling other people they are wrong. One of my Republican counter parts tells me I am wrong about issues on a regular basis. One day I woke up to the fact that no matter what I say he will disagree with no counter proposal or solution attached. I consider this to be a huge waste of time.
I am also a member of The Best of the Left Podcast with Jay Tomlinson, which is another excellent resource for understanding what is happening in the world of progressive politics. The deciding factor in becoming a member is that Jay takes one subject and gets the whole spectrum of the liberal media so you get a clear understanding of what a wide variety of people are saying on that particular subject. I highly recommend it.
I realize that The Best of the Left is standard stuff among you Daily Kos veterans. I also know that Jay is involved with Netroots Nation. I am only saying that I am becoming increasingly aware if what we are up against thanks to The Daily Kos and The Best of the Left Podcast.
There are a few things that I am noticing in this "Revolution in America". People that have never really paid attention to politics are starting to thanks to Occupy Wallstreet A lot of Republicans are leaving the party and becoming Independents or Democrats. With that in mind these people that have only watched Fox News and listened to Rush and Glenn need things like The Daily Kos and The Best of the Left to get the strait skinny if you will.
When I run into someone that has clearly been misinformed by Fox News, I do not tell them they are wrong. I simply say that I can understand why you have that point of view and there are differing opinions out there. I tell you what, don't take my word for it. Go to i tunes and download The Best of the Left podcast and it will not be long before you no longer allow Fox News on your TV. If they are wrong on a particular issue I will ask if I can slip and article from The Daily Kos into their Facebook page or email. Or a combination of an article and a clip from best of the left.
Pretty excellent tools to have on hand in my humbled opinion. As we see the Republican party shrinking because of the great Republican overreach and the attacks of the 1% it is imperative we make their transition to the progressive side of things a smooth one.
I will end with the beginning. I am in favor of the constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and remove the money from politics. Corporations are not people and money is not speech.
While I will be reading and commenting on a wide variety of subjects, I will be concentrating my diaries on the Constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
Thank You.
