Herman Cain: Just the guy you want defending you when it comes to "adultery." (Jason Reed/Reuters)
I guess serial adulterers
have to stick together.
Herman Cain came to Newt Gingrich’s defense Friday morning, saying CNN’s decision to ask the candidate about his ex-wife in Thursday night’s debate was “the same crap that they pulled on me.”
“I loved Newt Gingrich’s response because that’s the same crap that they pulled on me, and that’s what’s wrong with politics. This is what’s turning the American people off,” Cain said on Fox News. “What does something that happened 20 years ago relative to an ex-wife have to do with fixing America’s problems today? Nothing.”
But it's always fun to see Herman Cain back in the mix, so thanks, Stephen Colbert, for all of the levels of hilarity you're piling on here, not the least of which is making Cain topical again.
As for the "crap" John King pulled on Gingrich, the downside was that it gave Newt an opportunity to get all sanctimonious and riled up and you know the South Carolina crowd was going to eat it up. But also, too, what digby says:
I'll just link to this article from 1999, to provide some context that John King forgot to provide:
The speaker once again pledged to say during every public appearance that Americans have the right to know the truth about the Lewinsky matter and that the president is not above the law.
