As a "left for dead" Indiana Democrat, I'd like to encourage all Kos readers in red states to engage all Ron Paul supporters about the following facts. #1 when the Paul campaign began, it was all about winning the nomination. Yet, #2 the Paul campaign now speaks in terms of gaining delegates. What's even odder is that the Paul campaign has done everything and anything to help Mitt Romney.
Of course we all know that Gingrich will be the best possible nominee, after Sen Santorjerk. But Ron Paul supporters are everywhere ... you quite likely know many yourself. No matter what the Paul campaign says, they're quite okay with forgetting what happened a mere five minutes ago. Sure, Dr. Paul was trying to get the nomination quite recently. But now, it's just delegates. Doesn't matter, since the newsletter stuff hit (wasn't his fault, happened a long time ago). Or the MSM clobbered him (many excuses).
Ask your acquaintances in the Ron Paul campaign whether they prefer the "moneybombs" to be dropped in Newt territory, Smegatorum territory, or Romney territory? Chances are, they'll fall in line and agree that attacking "anyone-but-Mitt" is okay. Jesse Benton declared war on all not-Mitt candidates. So ask them, are they comfy with the idea that their money will help Romney? Or are they loyal supporters who firmly believe that once it's down to Paul v. Romney, that "of course everyone will vote for Dr. Paul?"
Paul's campaign is going to have a huge effect on primaries, everywhere. If Dr. Paul gives the word, Repubs will nominate even more extreme people that than they did last time. Newt is pandering, the entire party will follow suit. Most of the folks who like Ron Paul have no idea what a corporately-dominated nation would look like. They just think that as long as the government isn't doing anything, all is well. It's time to talk to those folks and ask them whether they believe that Wal-Mart has their interests in mind.
