The Indiana Senate has passed the House version of a so-called "right to work" bill. With both chambers having passed the same version of the bill, it now heads to Gov. Mitch Daniels' desk for his signature. While Daniels once opposed the policy, this year he has been an active part of the campaign to pass it, so there's no doubt he'll sign it into law.
The vote happened as:
[...] thousands of protesters packed Statehouse hallways shouting their disapproval, with thousands more lined-up outside waiting to get in.
After the vote, the protesters poured out of the Statehouse to join them for a rally on the Statehouse lawn and a march to Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Super Bowl will be held on Sunday.
There are piles of evidence that this will be a disaster for unions and workers in the state. And that's the point. Republican claims that it's about job creation are just a thin mask for the real goal of chipping away at any piece of power workers can currently claim.
