I don't know if the Right is just stupid, or pretends to be. On the Komen flap, National Review's Daniel Halper writes a post titled "You Should Find the Anti-Komen Backlash Disgusting, Even If You’re Pro-Choice":
“Does anyone on the Left even ask the basic question of whether a private charitable organization has the right to dispose of its money as it sees fit?” But in fact, that anyone thinks there is a question here is a sign we’ve already lost.
The question is whether the Right has any minds to lose it seems to me. Of course no one on "the Left" has to ask the "basic question" of whether Komen can give money to whomever it wants (within the tax laws of course), they can.
What's remarkable is that the Right seems not to understand (when it wants to not do so of course) that anyone gets to exercise their free spoeech right to criticize how Komen gives its money and to whom. The Left understood this when Komen was the target of the Right for providing grants to Planned Parenthood. I do not recall any National Review articles questioning the Right's campaign against Komen then. (Maybe the Left protested about it, the. I dunno.)
But what would you expect from these hacks? Not much, but the wonky pundits like to hold up Will Wilkinson as some reasonable voice. Of course he is not:
You know, I'm not a big fan of Komen's brandification of breast cancer, I dislike seeing pink ribbons plastered over everything, and I think Planned Parenthood is real swell, abortions and all. So I'm not especially inclined to come to Komen's aid. But I'll be damned if this doesn't look a bit like PP throwing it's weight around, knocking a few pieces of china off the shelves, sending a message to its other donors: "Nice foundation you got there. Wouldn't want anything to, you know, happen to it."
There is something incredibly, well, disgusting about this. Planned Parenthood has been the target of Right Wing zealots for years now, and Wilkinson is attacking PP for defending itself. What a fucking asshole. Remember this oen the next time those wonky bloggers tell you what a nice reasonable guy Wilkinson is.
