If there was any doubt that Newt Gingrich has become the candidate of choice for the New Apostolic Reformation, it's about to be erased tonight in Las Vegas at 7:30 pm Pacific Time. People for the American Way reports that Gingrich is slated to appear at a "Pray for America" rally sponsored by New Apostolic Reformation "prophetess" Cindy Jacobs. For those who don't remember, Jacobs is the same yayhoo who claimed birds fell dead after the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. She's currently spearheading a prayer campaign called "Fast Forward," whose goal is to "shift this nation" hard right.
The meeting is taking place at the International Church of Las Vegas; its pastor, Paul Goulet, is a member of the International Coalition of Apostles, one of the groups that leads the dominionist movement. Gingrich will be introduced by Jim Garlow, one of the national co-chairmen of Gingrich's Faith and Freedom Coalition. You may remember Garlow as one of the leaders of the Prop 8 effort. According to PFAW, Garlow has been involved for some time in bridging the gap between the mainstream religious right and the New Apostolic Reformation. He's even been openly pushing "Seven Mountains" theology, which calls for Christians to take over the realms that influence our culture--especially the "mountain" of politics and government.
If I'm reading Jacobs' announcement right, it also looks like she's trying to stack the deck in Gingrich's favor at tomorrow's Nevada caucuses, and possibly lead a dominionist effort to take over the Clark County GOP. She provides detailed information on how to take part in the caucuses, as well as how they work. Whether it'll work or not is hard to tell. PPP's last poll has Romney ahead of Gingrich by a two-to-one margin. Then again, it looks like social conservatives provided the push to get Santorum over the finish line in Iowa. Could they do the same for Gingrich? It looks like they're trying.
