This diary is for my fellow Washingtonians in our little group....I feel like I am yelling in an empty Safeco Field....
Rob McKenna is ahead of Jay Inslee in many of the polls. Is the deafening silence I hear because it is still February??? When I mention this to Democratic co-workers, they shrug their shoulders and change the subject.
I dont think I am telling you anything new when I say that Rob McKenna can come off as a reasonably moderate person. He isn't. How do I get this message across????? The apathy is scaring me.
I just got home from the town hall meeting in Shelton, hosted by Kathy Hague, one of my reps. Fred Finn could not come, and DINO Tim Sheldon never attends these things. I went to testify on behalf of my fellow teachers on the issue of taking away my collective bargaining rights to have my current health care, or to be tossed into the state health system. To my relief, Rep. Hague said the bill was not likely to go anywhere because there are so many other education issues out there, they were running out of time. So I pocketed my prepared speech and sat down to listen.
Shelton is a pretty conservative lumber town, and I was most likely the only Dem. in the room, aside from Rep. Hague. I listened for 3o minutes as the other 11 people who showed up stood and bashed teachers and schools. I finally had to stand up and attempt to change their incorrect assumptions of what goes on in a school....when I told my fellow teachers I was going to do this today, they smiled and patted me on the back and thanked me, and then told me of their plans to vacation this weekend.
This drives me nuts.
In the past, the KOS community has gotten behind various candidates to put or keep Dem candidates in office. I really wish we could establish a war fund for Inslee..he is a nice man but not as charismatic as McKenna, and a lot of people I know have very little knowledge about him.
Am I premature in my concern??? Talk me down, folks!! :) Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.
