Last week Rick Santorum called President Obama a “snob” because he (the President) wants everyone to go to college. He then assigned motivation to the President’s desire for people to get an education…that college campuses are incubators for radical liberal ideas, which somehow causes people relinquish their faith just like the President. Let’s forget that he mis-characterized the President position, which you can expect in an election year. What was most egregious was how condescending, manipulative, and completely disrespectful he was to Americans.
Mr. Santorum graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and went on to earn TWO graduate degrees, one in Business and one in Law (all three degrees were earned at PUBLIC schools, you are welcome!) The education he received has been instrumental in his life and career. I imagine that he would not be running for President without it. Despite this influence Santorum feels that only certain people should get the same education. Why? Because apparently the rest of us are not as strong as he is (or the others in the GOP with advanced degrees.) Only he could navigate thought the liberal wasteland of college and come out unscathed with his faith intact.
I feel his comments were as manipulative as they were disrespectful. He went out of his way to scare parents from sending their children to college implying "If your children go to college they will become a mindless-liberal heathens." He did this because the Republican Party does not want everyone to go to college, but instead only wants certain people to go (people already in the upper class.) They don’t want all young adults to be exposed to new and different ideas, or to meet others from diverse back grounds because they might actually question the lies the Party, their parents, or the church is spewing. They want lock-step adherence to their restrictive-oppressive philosophy.
With this kind of attitude and manipulative behavior I could suggest that Mr. Santorum needs some more education but with three post-secondary degrees and I am certain he will never learn how to treat people with respect and consideration.
