Like many of us, I listened to Rush today. One obvious change is that Rush has abandoned last week's attack mode entirely. He spent a lot of time explaining how it is really the Democratic Party's fault that he was forced to use "absurdity" to make his point.
So score one point for us in the long-term win category. Nothing close to an actual apology escaped his lips. He is still entirely on the hook.
He then went on to spend his time "proving" the GOP does not promote anti-women policies. He doubled down on the "religious freedom" argument. He continues to insist that lack of insurance coverage does not impact a woman's ability to use contraception. He continues to insist the Catholic Church is being "forced to dispense contraceptives".
Score two points. One: I am confident women are too smart to be fooled by those claims. Full disclosure: I am am a man, so what do I know? Still, I will side with the notion that women keenly understand contraception much better than Rush.
Two, aka The Clincher: Americans are simply sick & tired of being told what their health insurance does not cover.
For The Win - Point Three.
We could not ask for more from Rush. His arguments will continue to turn away moderate American voters. His vitriol will continue to keep the Tea Party types frothing at the mouth. That in turn will keep the GOP primary firmly planted in the land of the surreal. If the Democrats take the House and hold the Senate this November, consider hoisting a glass to Rush.
Advertisements: Another disclaimer: I missed at least an hour of his show. But what I did hear on WLS Chicago seemed to be all WLS bumpers, GOP ads, and local ads: fool-and-his-money stuff like Majestic Star Casino, cash-for-gold places, financial "adviser" shakedowns ... small operator stuff who already aren't in the Polished Reputation markets.
Keep up the pressure. This stuff is genuinely working.
