IcebergSlim has an excellent diary up recounting the demeaning tweets made by actress Patricia Heaton about Sandra Fluke, and her less than compelling apology.
Some have suggested contacting ABC, the network airing her most recent show. That may cause some discomfort, but in the end she will laugh it off. Let me suggest a perhaps more effective means to let Ms. Heaton know how we feel.
According to the website of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Patricia Heaton is scheduled to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012.
I strongly urge you to contact them and politely share your views about the appropriateness of honoring an actor who has violated all standards of civil and respectful discourse. Yes, Patricia Heaton has a Constitutionally-protected right to free speech, and I will defend that till my last breath. But she does not have a Constitutionally-protected right to her own star, that is an honor that should be reserved for talented and honorable people.
Let the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce know if you would be inclined to participate in a counter-demonstration if they go through with their plans. I would not be surprised if the unveiling of the star were delayed for a year or more as a result of the controversy.
You all know the drill. Go to it.
