In a bid to oust Arizona as the official "National Joke State," the Missouri state legislature, at the behest of Speaker of the House, Steve Tilley (R-Perryville ph: 573-751-1488 Email: Steven.Tilley@house.mo.gov) will be placing a bust of Rush Limbaugh in the Hall of Famous Missourians in the Capitol rotunda. Limbaugh's visage will reside next to bronze busts of prominent Missourians such as Harry Truman, Mark Twain, Edwin Hubble, Stan Musial, and Walt Disney.
See St. Louis Post-Dispatch, March 6, 2012.
A little bit more below the funny orange squiggle . . .
Representative Tilley is quoted in the article as stating, "It's not the Hall of Universally Loved Missourians, it's the Hall of Famous Missourians."
Comments on the newspaper article (registration required to chime in) have suggested that Tilley include other famous Missourians such as Jesse James, Kenneth Lay, and James Earl Ray.
The Missouri Legislature is a wholly owned subsidiary of the GOP, which is the prime beneficiary of much of Mr. Limbaugh's vitriol.
Oddly enough, Representative Tilley (R-Perryville) is a member of the Missouri House of Representatives' Ethics Committee.
Irony abounds.
7:30 AM PT: UPDATE 1: Here's the video of Representative Tilley bloviating about the most famous radio personality in the world (according to Tilley).
