Just like Van Jones & Elizabeth Warren before, the GOP has found their new boogeyman to deflect attention off real issues.
It's what the GOP has done best for a while now. Remember they blame the "liberal" or "lamestream" media for attacking conservatism yet they always successfully (at times) change the dialogue into debating over non-issues.
So it makes perfect sense why Bill Maher has been attacked recently as the sinking ship that represents Rush Limbaugh starts to sputter.
Mitt Romney, being the champion of born-again conservatism, came out today attacking Bill Maher on Sean Hannity's show by stating:
"Frankly, what Bill Maher said, and I finally read the transcripts, I was offended outraged that a person would say that on TV and would not have been called on the carpet before now and not apologized for it. To have the Obama campaign retain a million dollars from Bill Maher, it is simply outrageous. I don't condone that kind of language and particularly in a public setting, a TV setting. ... It's just gone way beyond the pale."
He truly seems outraged, doesn't he? I'd love to know what transcripts he read but it was probably something his aides told him.
But let's not be mean to Mitt, I mean, he's running for office for Pete's sake! I mean, Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a "slut", so you know he had to read that transcript right. He offered this nugget of impassioned criticism towards Rush by saying:
"I'll just say this, which is it's not the language I would have used."
Wait, what? That was Mitt Romney waiting to make a speech and that's all he could come up with. Right there shows his ineptitude when it comes to being without the usage of a teleprompter or rehearsed interview.
This is also the candidate that loves women so much that he wants to cut Planned Parenthood.
So his attacks on Bill Maher aren't some newfound belief in chivalry. No, not at all. It's all for one thing, to gain conservatives trust.
That's how disgusting this man and the party he represents has become. I won't defend Bill Maher, he's a comedian that I do enjoy at times and cringe at just the same, but it's quite clear that this isn't some assault on him.
By attacking Maher, Romney believes he is talking to the everyday conservative radio listener that thinks Limbaugh isn't getting a fair shake. It's a weak strawman's argument that is rooted in bigotry and shortsightedness. Romney is defending Limbaugh but using the language he chose. The language of bigotry.
Romney may or may not be this bad, I mean I don't think even he knows what the hell he believes in. He, as he has done time and time again, is of the belief that all he has to say is a few words and conservatives will found out that they really do love him.
But no, he's not as "gritty" as he thinks. He's actually a weak man that thinks he can rile up the conservative base and probably in his convoluted, sheltered mind believed he was defending women.
I'd pity Romney if he had anything real to him. But the robo-candidate is as weak as he seems.
