I’m not a good writer. I have more ambition than talent. Yet I do it anyway because there are just some things I can’t remain silent about. So, I’m kind of angry that simplicity has been compromised for me and many others. That may sound odd but hear me out.
Because the right, republicans and libertarians in particular, have abused, misused and bastardized a good number of words. I found myself with a conundrum writing the word liberty. I’m pretty sure that was a concise way to say what I wanted to get across. Yet I found myself frozen contemplating whether I would be taken serious or not unless I found another way to say the same damn thing.
Just to clarify, I have no problem with the words or the concepts behind these words.
it is the fact that they are now just repetitious crap from the ditto-heads.
Honestly, now that I went ahead and used the word, I really sad that the right has confiscated some of the best, simplest and most concise terms used to describe government, politics and even history. They’ve essentially reamed them empty of proper significance through misuse and overuse.
The right and the marketing advisers they employ have done us all a great disservice by hammering the same ideas over and over as mere “talking points”. I really detest that they have been rendered cringe worth.
I wrote once that the center/moderates and left/traditional democrats, need to take back the things the republican party has confiscated and defiled.
... Damn, it! Even that last sentence contains a phrase they have savaged, “take back”. Perhaps it is time to insist everyone use caution when communicating and treat with reverence certain words and phrases that our founding fathers used during the construction of our constitution.
... Well, there we have another few abused terms, founding fathers and constitution. Know I’m getting frustrated and angry at the abuse they have inflicted.
... Anyway, I just started to list some others but highlighted the list and deleted it because they have really redefined or worn out some really common [knowledge] stuff. I’m sure I’ve read here about the poisonous twisting done by wordsmiths. I guess I was pretty indifferent until today.
It really bothers me that when my passion for a politics gets the best of me, I’m second guessing myself. I shouldn’t have to worry that moderates, democrats and even some republicans will tune out if I write something that contains a republican buzzword, code word, dog whistle, etc.
