GCB an acronym for "Good Christian Bitches" is a disgusting show that belongs on a cable channel late at night. It certainly doesn't belong in the ABC Sunday night round up.
May I report and rant?
I've been wondering where the Christian Bible Belt people have been regarding TV programming. Sex in the City was a smash hit for years. Apparently, it took GCB to wake them up, and wake them up it did. After one show, enough Good Christian Women complained to Kraft Foods, that Kraft pulled their Cream Cheese ads. Yay!
The Good Christian women worked hard for this outcome. This article is from The American Decency Association, a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.
Advertiser Pulls From “GCB.” Thank Them.
Our first victory in response to our action alert regarding the offensive ABC show “GCB!”
As we reported earlier this week, ABC/Disney’s new show “GCB” represents one of the most blatant evidences of Christian bigotry, Christian slandering, and the degradation of Christian women ever seen on network television. See our account here.
Thankfully, many of you shared our outrage and have responded to our action alert.
Ok, please don't eat or drink while reading about what else outranged this same group. Seriously, if you need a good laugh you HAVE to read this:
Limbaugh Undermines Conservative Values
Forget Sandra Fluke and the War on Women. You see, Rush made a cameo appearance on The Family Guy that the Good Christian Women found offensive:
As we reported last week, Rush Limbaugh was the featured guest on FOX’s latest “Family Guy” episode which aired Sunday night. In the nine seasons it has been on, Family Guy has built a reputation for being crass, offensive, and very leftwing-oriented, but, according to the shows creator, Seth McFarlane, they have made fun of the right so much they thought they should give conservatives a little “face time.” And Limbaugh apparently jumped at the opportunity.
Now if we could just persuade each other and The American Decency Association that all the other shows on TV are mostly denegrating to women, laced with violence, have no social value, provide no social enlightenment, and are teaching all the wrong values and lessons to kids, we might get some decent programming. Dare I dream?
THE MOST POWERFUL TOOL IN OUR HOMES, is the TV. ssccccccreeeeeeeeech.......
Oh, sorry, that was yestercentury. Perhaps TV is the last bastion for the few and the elderly that don't use ALL THE NEW SOCIAL MEDIA.
I tried to watch the first show, out of curiousity, and turned it off right after one of the married Christian woman stars went to her Karate instructor for her lesson and torrid, casual sex.
GCB makes Desperate Housewives look like Anne of Green Gables by comparison.
Here's a write up from the NYTimes about GCB "Good Christian Bitches" a very, very expensive book. I've never heard of it before. Hmmmmm.....
Sweet Tea and Tart Women
ABC, on the other hand, snapped up “GCB,” which stars Kristin Chenoweth as the rich ringleader of a nasty Texas clique. Her childhood frenemy moves home from California and claws start to pop. If the first episode is any guide, the series, produced by Darren Star (“Sex and the City”), will be way, way (way) over the top. Think “Dallas” meets “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.”
“Right from the beginning we thought this was a home-run idea for us,” said Channing Dungey, senior vice president for drama development at ABC, a division of the Walt Disney Company.
I think it might be a home run, too. But for different reasons. I'd like to see this show, and a host of others, knocked out of the park as in off the air, out of our homes run!
I know, too many other dragons to slay and this is probably no biggie to most.
For me, it's a wake up call long overdue. I've been investigating what is going on in three local high schools. It's not good for so many reasons (another diary).
The price being paid for the low level of morality and lack of decent programming available on our American Television system is the quality of life for the nations children. Slowly, over time the kids are being programmed in negative dystopia.
I can hear "Where are the parents?" Many are working 2 jobs, sadly, thanks 30 years of flat wages.
My kids don't let their kids watch much TV because there isn't anything to watch that meets their standards. My kids don't watch much TV either. My friends don't watch TV. I am wondering. Who IS watching TV?
Apparently the Good Christian Women from The American Decency Association. The decades of violence, mostly against minorities, women, and children, that has been our American Television for decades wasn't quite appalling enough.
Well, AT, you have a home run now. You have the Evangelical Christians of America on your case. Good luck with that. I back them on this one. Who knows, maybe GCB can unite the country. IT'S AN ATTACK ON ALL WOMEN and MEN. You have to watch one show to see what I mean.
So, THANK YOU AMERICAN TV FOR STINKING! I am getting so much reading done now that I can't veg with you.
I hope you clean up your act.
I do watch some TV. My favorite shows are Doc Martin and Masterpiece Theater, both on PBS. If the UK can produce decent programs, surely America can.
THE STATE DEPARTMENT should have a word or two to say to AT about programming. This is what the world sees of America. These programs are all that millions of people around the world see of America. They must think we are a disgusting society!
Are we? Are we a disgusting society?
Speaking of all those books I have read over the past few years, I have ploughed through the classics. I have learned that people haven't changed all that much over time; however, what is deemed acceptable social behavior has and not for the better, imo. In the olden days, people had to find special places to play out their fantasies. I thought Cable TV served this purpose today, not the three National Networks?
In our time, nearly naked women are in advertisements on TV, bigger than life posters at the Mall (Victoria Secret), and just about everywhere there is print. And we wonder why teen pregnancies are so high? Really?
In closing, if we are going to have our American Spring, I hope we can include on the to do list an improvement in social discourse and a clean up of what we call Entertainment in America.
I bet National TV stations would have a resurgence of viewers if they produced quality family programming until 10:00PM, especially in these economically challenging times. By quality I don't mean brainless, denegrating programming. It can be done.
My family gathered every Sunday night with home made popcorn to watch Walt Disney. It was one of the few times we made a point to be together.
Walt must be turning over in his grave over GCB. Sorry, Walt. Oh those kids!
Families need this now more than ever, imo. Almost everyone's paying for TV if they have any at all these days. I cancelled Cable over a year ago to save money. I'm about to cancel TV altogether. There's nothing on. In my area this is what we have: Weekend long informercials on Network TV, alligator hunting, ice road trucking, and mostly GOP sloganizms on Sunday morning and the only CSPAN channel offered on the Local TV for $19.95 Comcast service. I am wondering if the three programs I like each week are worth $19.95 a month.
Maybe if more people cancelled, we could get better stuff on Cable and/or Network TV? But they won't. They are addicted. I am here to say you can overcome that addiction.
You can gather all the news you need on the Internet.
End of what many may deem my sophmoric rant.
