The Republican budget released this week gives tax breaks to millionaires — with an average tax break of $150,000, while at the same time cutting Medicare, shifting higher costs to seniors.
For the second year in a row, this budget slashes programs for children, seniors, and working families without asking millionaires to pay even a dollar more.
As Eric posted earlier, we’ve been working hard to push back against this terrible plan, but we’re not finished yet.
Yesterday, Eric and several local seniors delivered 5,328 petition signatures from people asking his Republican opponent Janice Arnold-Jones to choose--protect Medicare for seniors or keep tax cuts for millionaires? We couldn't get a clear answer.

Our plan is to make sure that GOP budget plan is dead on arrival, by making Republicans candidates around the country pay a political price for supporting it.
There is already some evidence that our efforts are working.
On the same day that Republicans in Congress released a budget plan to end Medicare while protecting tax cuts for millionaires, Eric's Tea Party Republican opponent Dan Lewis dropped out of the race. In announcing his decision, Lewis said, “the Democrats have made it clear they will hold nothing back."
He’s right -- we’re not holding anything back, and we’re not done yet.
This is just the beginning of our efforts. We're working hard to push the conversation in the right direction, both here in New Mexico and across the country.
Other progressive candidates have started similar campaigns to protect Medicare, and I truly hope that we'll be working together in Congress to protect working families and defeat the Paul Ryan budget plan.
