This is how change begins. Remains to be seen where this goes, but the conversation that's been happening behind closed doors in the Mormon Church since Proposition 8 has just gone to YouTube.
My former roommate is Mormon, and she gave me a heads-up about some of the soul-searching that's been going on in Mormon communities since Proposition 8. The common understanding of religion is that it is something static and monolithic. Scholars of religion get disabused of that idea quickly, when they actually have to look at what's happening in some detail. Like every religion, Mormonism will go through inevitable changes. I hope that these courageous voices will help those changes go in a positive direction, instead of retrenchment. If the experience of the majority of mainstream Protestant churches is any indication, the likelihood is that down the line, the Mormon church will come to terms with the full humanity of LGBT folk.
There's also a blog of Gay Mormon Stories.
