Much has been written and televised about Mike Wallace since his recent death. This is an interview from 1957 with Margaret Sanger. It is hard for me to realize that I was already nine years old at the time - was this really such an issue during my lifetime?
Of course, we seem to be heading back that way, and some of us have been shaking our heads in wonder that birth control seems still to be an issue for certain people (most of them men) and is back in our public discourse.
One would think that the extended cigarette commercial, with Mike Wallace holding a cigarette and talking about its pleasures would be more controversial in 2012 than the subject of birth control, but we seem to have entered a time-warp where this is not so. Somehow women are supposed to be incapable of controling their sexual appetites without the spector of a child held before them. Men seem to be immune to this.
