And it makes Itzl and Xoco happy.
I left Hector behind today because it was going to be a rough day at work. Fire drills, an excess of visitors, it was raining, and it was my turn to bring the donuts.
I didn't think Hector would be noisy or frightened, it was just that I didn't think I could physically a puppy that couldn't keep up with the speed today required. Hector, as those who have been following his story know, is a very slow moving puppy. He's getting large enough that carrying him isn't easy any more - he's approaching 10 pounds. At 6-7 weeks of age, that's one big puppy.
So I left him home alone. Mostly. He has the laundry room and access to the back yard, his cat bed, toys, lots of food and water, and his crate, if he chooses to use it (although he's outgrowing that, too, since I bought the crates for cats and small dogs). The yard is fenced and there's a nice doghouse out back if he discovers it.
Xoco has the rest of the house.
And Itzl came to work with me without us having to wait for Hector.
He pranced (yay for his surgery working! Thank you all you wonderful DKos people!) and dashed about checking all his favorite spots, places he wasn't able to get to for a week because of plodding little Hector's pace.
He did well on the fire drill, too, but then, he's an old hand at fire drills. He alerted on the siren about 20 seconds before the lights began to flash, then led the way to check the restrooms and the Visitor's Lounge.
Usually I wait to see the others returning to the building because I can't hear the all-clear whistle, but Itzl heard the whistle and led the way to the door.
I think I will leave Hector at home on Fridays because they are always hectic at work, at least until he finds his forever home.
