Exciting email this morning from the Congressional campaign of Dr. Raul Ruiz. I was made aware of his campaign from my daughter, who attended a lecture he gave to the Latino American Medical Student Association in Boston in February. She was so impressed she called me right after his talk to rave about it. (She is just finishing 3rd year Medical School.)
Thanks to you, we made the prestigious Red-to-Blue list - the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC)’s ranking of the most competitive races in the nation.
Democrats 2012 Red-To-Blue List
In a statement from DCCC Chairman Steve Israel said:
"Raul Ruiz is a doctor and a problem solver who is focused on the middle class. In Congress, Raul will fight for the middle class and seniors, not the ultra wealthy or big companies, and he will stand up to the extreme Republican agenda that ends Medicare in order to protect millionaires."
....from his fb bio where he notes his calling is to be practicing medicine for his people not running for congress:
Dr. Raul Ruiz is not a politician; he is a public servant and physician, dedicated to serving the community. The son of farmworkers, Raul grew up in Coachella and learned at an early age that the key to attaining the American Dream was hard work and a great education. In the summer of 1990, under the hot desert sun, Raul walked from business to business in the Coachella Valley asking them to invest in their community – by contributing to his education. With each investment for college, he made a promise to come back home and serve the community as a physician.
...and has garnered an impressive awards list.
Awards
Commander's Award for Public Service - US 82nd Airborne, 2010
Humanitarian Award - The California American College of Emergency Physicians, 2011
Humanitarian of the Year - Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce, 2010
Person of the Year Award - The Desert Magazine, 2011
Influential Latino of the Year - Inland Empire Hispanic Image Awards, 2009
He concludes his appreciation for Red-to-BLUE List achievement:
You stood by us, and together we are showing the whole country the power of our grassroots campaign.
I can’t thank you enough for your support now and in the coming months. We are campaigning to improve our community and nation, and we couldn’t do it without you.
Apparently his 'campaign page' is not spending money on a website, but has this facebook page!
