By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that the CEO of Fox News of the World, Rupert Murdoch was described as “not fit to run a major company.” The Parliamentary Panel’s 129 page findings were embarrassing but they lacked the teeth to break-up the scandalous news empire. However, there are three entities that could really cause problems for Fox News of the World in this country.
First, check out this move by CREW:
“Today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski asking the FCC to revoke the 27 Fox broadcast licenses News Corp. holds in the United States. Under U.S. law, broadcast frequencies may be used only by people of good “character,” who will serve “the public interest,” and speak with “candor.” Significant character deficiencies may warrant disqualification from holding a license.”
While I doubt very seriously that the FCC will actually do anything, the fact that this story is growing legs in America makes me happy. I’m sure Darryl Issa will have a hearing soon…NOT.
Check this out from WAPO:
“The fallout hasn’t traveled across the Atlantic to the United States, where Murdoch and News Corp. own their largest and most profitable assets, including Fox News Channel, the Fox broadcast network and the 20th Century Fox studio.
But Justice Department attorneys and the FBI have been investigating whether any phone hacking took place on American soil, including the phones of families of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The investigation began last summer after the British scandal exploded. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. has met with some of the victims’ families, and investigators followed up as recently as March, according to Norman Siegel, attorney for a group of 24 people related to the victims.”
Well, it looks like the scandal “IS “making its way here because nearly every major news outlet is now talking about this “unfit” news outlet.
This final agency is the one I believe most likely to do real damage--WAPO again:
“While embarrassing to Murdoch and his company, the report has no judicial or legislative force. The real power over Murdoch’s British holdings — particularly News Corp.’s nearly 40 percent stake in the lucrative British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) satellite TV service — is the Office of Communications, or OfCom.
The independent agency has the power to take a TV license away from anyone deemed “unfit” to hold one. It has been conducting its own probe into News Corp. but has given no time frame for its decision. On Tuesday, the agency issued a statement saying its officials were reading the parliamentary report “with interest.”
I say go for it!!
It’s one thing for a news company to tilt left or right—I really don’t care. It’s another to bribe, hack, attack, ambush, twist, distort, organize, advertise and promote political groups under the fair and balance banner. It's one thing to report the conservative point of view but it's another to have/had five presidential candidates employed at their network at the same time:
1. Newt Gingrich-GOP Presidential Candidate
2. Rick Santorum-GOP Presidential Candidate
3. Mike Huckabee-GOP Presidential Candidate
4. Donald Trump-Wannabe GOP Candidate
5. Sarah Palin- GOP VP Candidate who pretended to run for president
Fox is illegitimate outlet--plain and simple.
Hey News Corp Scandal?
Welcome to America.
