I’m sure you Kossers have read Romney’s ignorant statement about how horrible this recovery is and that he'll create 500K jobs per month. First, he’ll never get the chance to create any jobs other than one for himself after he gets punk-slapped in November.
I’m glad he made the statement because progressives just got lots of new jobs information to slam republicans. Check this out from NY Times:
“In the last 50 years, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy added that many jobs in a single month just five times. Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush all spent their entire time in office without ever seeing a month where the country added 500,000 or more jobs.
Only three presidents in the last half century ever saw the kind of growth Mr. Romney envisioned, and even then it was never sustained at that level. The country added more than 500,000 jobs a month just twice under Jimmy Carter and just once each during the eight-year presidencies of Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. President Obama saw growth that large once in 2010 before it tapered off again.
Mr. Romney could have taken a lesson from Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., who in 2010 predicted that the economy would be adding up to 500,000 jobs a month “some time in the next couple of months.” Mr. Biden later said he “got in trouble” and that “even some in the White House said, ‘Hey, don’t get ahead of yourself.’”
So let’s grab some new talking points from these findings:
1. Every Democratic president in the last 50 years have created 500K jobs at least one month during their term.
2. Ronald Reagan is the only republican to create 500K jobs in his eight year term but Jimmy Carter did it twice in half the time.
3. 80% of the time we’ve seen Job creation over 500K is was done by Democrats.
4. Obama stimulus swung the economy from losing 6-800K jobs per month to running off string of 26 straight months of private sector job growth with one month over 500K in just his second year.
5. With the upward revision of the February and March numbers, this economy is averaging an increase of 200K jobs per month according to: http://bls.gov/...
6. There’s only been five months that we’ve seen job growth over 500K in 50 years.
7. Progressive policies work.
8. Conservative policies don’t.
9. The Stimulus worked.
10. House Dems and Obama saved us from another Great Depression.
And the best part comes from Thinkpro:
"As of April, there are now more private sector jobs in the United States than there were in January 2009, when President Obama took office. You read that right. We have now replaced all of the private sector jobs lost while Obama has been president. And that was no mean feat, given that over the course of 2009, the private sector shed about 4.2 million jobs."
Happy Friday!!!
