Jesse has no idea I'm asking for your help for him. None. He didn't ask for help, but I am.
The only reason I know about his computer dying is that he emailed me last week saying that he wanted to do a diary for Netroots for the Troops. Needless to say, I was delighted and thankful. The Ministry of Truth ripping it up for NFTT?! Wowza! It was happy dance time!
We agreed on a date and time and Jesse was in the schedule. The Ministry of Truth was going to start the week's NFTT blogathon with a diary at ten o'clock Monday morning! Yesterday. Didn't see the diary did you? Neither did I.
This was not like our Jesse at all and the worry immediately set in. Then I received word from him on his i-phone. His computer was done. The mother board fried. Could he "re-schedule?"
What? Dude! You don't have a functioning computer!
But giving up easily is not an MoT trait. He insists on helping. He wants to send out tweets, post to FB, and yes, still write a diary for us.
Now by and large I'm a technological idjit. I stand in awe of those like elfling and our tech team who know what all these gizmos and gadgets DO and how to make them do it.
My children have learned to not sigh too deeply when I ask the next unbelievably clueless question about the mysterious workings of computers. They just do what needs doing to ensure that Mom can be happily typing away on her keyboard.
But even I can't see Jesse trying to write a diary, any diary, using his i-phone. And we need him to be able to write diaries. We need him to do all that he does. Not just on dkos, but everywhere.
He needs his computer for ALL the work he does.
But here's the problem. In spite of all his efforts and hard work, Jesse has been struggling financially for years. He wrote this diary just a month ago.
Poverty is a motherf*cker. It's a trap.
I could be wrong, but I don't see how that much has changed in four short weeks. Jesse never answered my question when I asked him if his computer could be fixed. He never asked for help, just kept insisting that he wanted to help us with the NFTT blogathon.
All I know is that his computer mother board is toast.
So what do you say?
Can we help our Ministry of Truth?
What do you think?
If you wish, you can help Jesse by going to his website and making a contribution.
A huge h/t to Eileen B for the link to Jesse's website.
Thanks so much wonderful ones. :)
Update:
Look what you all have done! :)
Strong men also cry
stunned, amazed, grateful, blown away.
More times than I can count now where I have woken up to discover amazing things happening to me on Daily Kos.
Just got to the office where we are putting together the MoT show, cell phone died, bill unpaid, starting small but strong, not having a computer is a total hastle, especially when trying to write, edit video, add multimedia content, make public media appearances and all of the other exciting things I find myself doing these days.
So you can imagine how floored I was when I saw Tool's text? Thank you everyone, and you especially Onomastic. These fundraising drives really help, you have no idea. Thank you! It reminds me, even back when the whole Fox incident happened to me, that I wouldnt have been there without DailyKos or without the support of some amazing people. I don't know what to say, except thank you.
I will be in the comments for bit, I'm at the office now editing stuff from the premiere episode of the show and working on the next one, I'm new to this so it takes some learning, although I will say that after learning the basics I feel that Rachel Maddow shouldn't just have her own show, she should have her own network!
Anyway, big love to everyone, having no cash can be depressing and makes everything else that much more of a slog, so every little bit of support goes a long way. So grateful for DailyKos, this place has changed my life for the better and continues to do so.
