Welcome! "What's Happenin'?" is a casual community diary (a daily series, 8:30 AM Eastern on weekdays, 10 AM on weekends and holidays) where we hang out and talk about the goings on here and everywhere.
We chat about our lives, our health, our families, our social circles, our pets, etc. We welcome links to your writings here on dkos or elsewhere, posts of pictures, music, etc.
Just about anything goes, but attacks and pie fights are not welcome here. This is a community diary and a friendly, peaceful, supportive place for people to interact.
Everyone who wants to join in peaceful interaction is very welcome here.

A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.

Should mothers decide what an artist may say or just what her child may hear?

Twenty-five years after Tipper Gore and Susan Baker went on a legendary crusade against rock ‘n’ roll, mothers are still battling the pernicious influence of popular culture on our offspring. Back then, it was dirty Prince lyrics. Now, it’s the JC Penney catalog. Oh, how the so-called culture wars have changed.
Some motherly humor from Tina Fey...

“First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches. May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.
I was a mature and financially secure 33 year old when I had my first baby - giving me a huge advantage. Teens giving birth face many obstacles, one of which is not having the money to care for their child. Here is a teen mom who is working hard to beat the odds - kudos to her!

While MTV is known for giving teen moms a platform to screw up parenting and teenagerhood in living rooms across America, teen mom Shayla McQueen has just beat out every kid in her graduating class to become valedictorian.

It is always the same. I am in the grocery store and I run into Someone I Knew In High School. As we chat and catch up, my three children get antsy and begin to play tag or hide-and-seek or something else loud and inappropriate for the setting. After my third or fourth “friendly” warning, my voice gets low and I say something like, “If you don’t stop I will string the three of you up by your toenails and let those vampire kids from Twilight eat you for lunch.”
Comparing my version of motherhood, with a roof over my head, clean water from the tap, plentiful food, a husband who is willing to share the load and a credit card that works at ToysRUs, to 3rd world mothers – is really no comparison -their situation is dire.

A new report says Norway is the best place in the world to be a mother, while Niger is the worst. The humanitarian group – Save the Children – has released its State of the World’s Mothers 2012 report. The report’s been released prior to the annual celebration of Mother’s Day.
As Margaret Sanger once said..."No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother."

After an emotional 14-hour workday that included fist-fights between lobbyists and a walk-out by women Democrats, the Georgia House passed a Senate-approved bill Thursday night that criminalizes abortion after 20 weeks.
