The 39th Senate District is in the Hudson Valley Region of New York State. The district is made up of the following municipalities: Plattekill, Malborough, Crawford, Montgomery, Town of Newburgh, City of Newburgh, New Windsor, Blooming Grove, Cornwall, Chester, Monroe, Woodbury, Highlands, Stony Point, and Haverstraw.
Below the fold we will take a look at each of these municipalities..
We will start in the north.
Plattekill

Located in the southern portion of Ulster County, gateway to the Catskill mountains, the Town of Plattekill is home to just over 10,000 residents and consists of five small hamlets. The hamlet of Ardonia is primarily agricultural; Clintondale is comprised of several small businesses and farmland. The hamlet of Modena is considered the center of the town and is the location of the Library, Town Hall and the Highway Department. New Hurley is noted for its pastureland and orchards. The hamlet of Plattekill consists of apple orchards and many small businesses. The Newspaper of Record for the Town (i.e. where Legal Notices are posted) is the Southern Ulster Times.

Marlborough is a historic farming community located in the beautiful Hudson Valley, about 70 miles from New York City. To the west the rugged hills, with their pristine aquafers, fall eastward to the fertile Lattintown valley abundant with fruit and vegetable farms. Further east lies the Route 9W commercial corridor, including the Hamlets of Marlboro and Milton. From the hamlets the land falls off dramatically with waterfalls and cliffs to the Hudson River where there is a riverfront park, restored 1885 train station and marinas.
Crawford

Crawford is a town in Orange County, New York, USA. The population was 9,316 at the 2010 census. The name comes a settler who gave his name to a community in the town now called Pine Bush.
The Town of Crawford is in the northwest corner of Orange County.
Montgomery

Montgomery is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 22,606 at the 2010 census. It was named in honor of Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 at the Battle of Quebec.
The Town of Montgomery is in the northern part of the county at the county line shared by Ulster County. Montgomery is immediately west of the Town of Newburgh. It contains three villages, one also called Montgomery, as well as Walden and most of Maybrook.

Newburgh is a city located in Orange County, New York, United States, 60 miles (97 km) north of New York City, and 90 miles (140 km) south of Albany, on the Hudson River. Newburgh is a principal city of the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metropolitan area, which includes all of Dutchess and Orange counties. The Newburgh area was first settled in the early 18th century by the Germans and British. During the American Revolution, Newburgh served as the headquarters of the Continental Army. Prior to its chartering in 1865, the city of Newburgh was part of the town of Newburgh; the town now borders the city to the north and west. East of the city is the Hudson River; the city of Beacon, New York is east of the river, and is connected to Newburgh via the Newburgh–Beacon Bridge. The entire southern boundary of the city is with the town of New Windsor. Most of this boundary is formed by Quassaick Creek.

Cornwall

Cornwall is a town in Orange County, New York, USA. It is located about 50 miles north of New York City on the western shore of the Hudson River. As of the 2010 census, the population was at 12,646.
Cornwall continues to increase in popularity as a bedroom community for New York City. Commuter rail service is available via the Salisbury Mills-Cornwall train station, operated by NJ Transit, and several other nearby stations on Metro North Railroad.
Cornwall has a distinct walkable downtown along Main Street, including a co-op, gift shops, taverns, restaurants, coffeehouses, yoga studios and boutiques. Government offices, churches, parks, the riverfront, and St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, a part of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, are situated within walking distance of downtown.

Highlands

The Town of Highlands is on the eastern border of the county.
The West Point CDP, including the United States Military Academy (West Point), is located alongside the Hudson River here, and the military reservation occupies a large part of the town.

Haverstraw is a town in Rockland County, New York, United States, located north of the Town of Clarkstown and the Town of Ramapo; east of Orange County, New York; south of the Town of Stony Point; and west of the Hudson River. The town runs from the west to the east border of the county in its northern part. The population was 36,634 at the 2010 census.[1] The name comes from the Dutch word Haverstroo meaning "Oat Straw", referring to the grasslands along the river. The town contains three villages, one of which is also known as Haverstraw. Haverstraw village is the original seat of government for the town, hosting the area's historic central downtown business district and the densest population in northern Rockland County.
