Teacher's Comments from Mrs. Roddenberry:
My Students: We will all be in the dark if we don't come up with alternative forms of energy soon! My students will be faced with the challenge of finding alternative forms of energy in the very near future to help sustain our population.
My third grade students are from Florida, the Sunshine State. I want to help them discover that we can use that sunshine to fuel our future! Our school is in a rural area. My students lack exposure to many alternative forms of energy. Fossil fuels are the primary source of energy in our community.
My Project: The solar oven and powerhouse will allow my students to explore solar energy and other forms of alternative energy to help them understand how we can develop sustainable forms of alternative energy. The powerhouse kit includes 30 experiments and 10 energy related models. The kit includes the powerhouse itself, a greenhouse, a solar cell array, a passive solar collector, a small solar oven, an air conditioner, a refrigerator, a hydrometer, a lemon battery, and a wind power generator. In addition, I will use the solar oven to show students the power of solar thermal energy and inspire them to design and create their own solar ovens.
Our future is in the hands of our students. You can help expose students to alternative forms of energy that will be essential in the near future. Please help me in fostering their creativity, ingenuity, and interest our energy needs.
