The juxtaposition was disturbing:
NATO Airstrike Kills 18 Civilians
Scientists Say Environmental Collapse Now a Serious Threat
And yet, the murder of civilians in pursuit of a small handful of potential terrorists is championed by the MSM and elected officials, while the fate of the human race--and the planet--hurtles increasingly toward the void.
Why are we so short-sighted? What is it about us--tribalism, greed, ennui, a fundamental disconnection from reality, cognitive dissonance--that makes us determined to invent or hype minor problems, while ignoring the massive impending catastrophes that await us only a few decades away?
Scientists now predict the tipping point--beyond which there will be catastrophic effects on all of humanity as well as the global environment--within a few generations. Once we reach that point, the damage will be irreversible.
The news, of course, spurred world leaders to unite in an attempt to save humanity and the Earth itself.
Or, maybe not:
“In a nutshell, humans have not done anything really important to stave off the worst because the social structures for doing something just aren’t there,” said Arne Mooers, a professor of biodiversity at Simon Fraser University in Canada’s British Columbia.
“My colleagues who study climate-induced changes through the Earth’s history are more than pretty worried,” he said in a press release. “In fact, some are terrified.”
No--our Dear Leaders are focused on eliminating the far greater threat of Al Qaeda, even if it means killing a few hundred or thousand innocent civilians. Or, facing down the awful, catastrophic threat posed by
gasp BUDGET DEFICITS!!!
I'd like to write more; but, I'm too bummed to go after links and generate text.
To the 2 or 3 people reading this (if that many), please just click the links and read them.
Oh, and please go here for the best attempt yet at an antidote to this madness.
