Please go and Rec TomP's diary concerning the Obama team's smackdown of Romney's plans to lay off more Americans if he wins the presidency.
This was an unforced error by Romney. Typically, he lies. This is one of those rare moments where he admitted to the American people what he normally only tells his rich campaign contribution bundlers.
This should be THE issue for the next few months. Republicans are the party of layoffs. Democrats are the party of job creation.
This is the key issue Americans need to understand before they vote in November. Obama's economic stewardship has put the private sector in a position where corporations are making historic unprecedented profits. These profits aren't trickling down to average Americans though. Corporations are using increased productivity and fear in their employees to garner unprecedented productivity. They don't need to hire more people when they can just force their current employees to work 10 more hours each week. This isn't something that's going to change any time soon. But even though corporations are up to their old tricks, they still haven't been able to avoid adding back in all the jobs that were lost during the beginning of Obama's presidency (before his policies took hold). They'd like to have been able to avoid that. But the economy really is that strong for private corporations at this point. They've been forced to make hires they didn't want to make.
The only way to truly fix the economy is to put all those people that Republicans laid off in state and local government back to work in the public sector. The private sector isn't going to have the demand it needs to hire even more people until they are. And that means instituting Obama's jobs plan. We all know Republicans don't want to do anything to make the economy better, in fact they've been trying to do the exact opposite ever since Obama took office.
But now we have Mitt Romney on record telling America that he'd come in and lay off more Americans. Granted, Mitt Romney doesn't have the kind of empathy or human emotions that would help him to recognize how insane he sounds - to his brand of corporate vulture capitalist, what he's saying is perfectly natural: lay off Americans to make the rich richer.
The Obama campaign knew what they had the minute it came out of Mitt Romney's mouth. They finally got him on record spilling the beans. Up until now Romney's only been honest about his plans to lay off Americans with his rich campaign bundlers.
This is THE issue folks.
Make sure we get this story at the top of the Rec list one way or another (write your own diary, rec this one, or go rec TomP's diary - he was the first to break the news on Team Obama's response).
This is the discussion Americans should be having for the next 4 months.
Do we want more lay offs, the Romney plan?
Or do we want to put Americans back to work, the Obama plan?
It's an easy choice.
