Interesting locations given SCOTUS could drop their findings in the Az Immigration Bill and/or the ACA constitutionality.
Now Romney might have planned to be in Az for awhile and it's just dumb luck but Pres Obama in Mass. seems to have been arranged rather quickly as Elizabeth Warren announced an hour or so ago that Pres Obama is heading to Massachusetts and she's been asked to introduce him (http://www.facebook.com/...).
Can anything be read into these travel arrangements?
The SCOTUS findings have been leakproof it seems - everybody pretends to know, but that's all from reading tea leaves - but if anybody would know what was coming it would be Pres Obama and it would be Mitt Romney. Romney is having trouble with the immigration issue ever since Pres Obama passed the no-deportation on DREAMers measure. If he is in Az as the SCOTUS decision drops there is no way he could get around not commenting on it - so he has to be there for this reason. No matter what SCOTUS decides he can use Az to base his attacks - either SCOTUS ruling that Az is within their rights (and push his States rights agenda) or SCOTUS rules against SB1070 and he chastises Pres Obama for dropping the ball on immigration reform and leaving Az to have to try and do it's best.
On the other side of America, Pres Obama will be in Massachusetts - I can't think of many better places to be when the SCOTUS ACA findings are released. Now I hoped for a Oval Office prime time address if ACA was stricken in any way or in totality, but giving remarks in Massachusetts, a state with a mandate that is working - put in place by Mitt Romney, might make campaign sense to try and spin the ruling politically. Also it it's wholly upheld, Massachusetts would be a great place to celebrate the fact - reminding Republicans about Obamacare roots come from Romneycare just as they're all pitching fits on cable and network news across America about how they have to defeat it via Congress now.
If only one is coming down - would Romney choose to be in Az to gloat over ACA being stricken? Could he be in Az in a desperate attempt to stay in an immigration message should ACA be upheld completely? I have to imagine once the ACA findings are released all other news will be buried in coverage - even the immigration findings. But being in Az, the immigration findings will be co-headlining allowing Romney to control his coverage.
Are both locations serendipity or do they have a heads up on SCOTUS announcements? Can anything be read into their choice of location should the respective rulings come down? Or could locations be used no matter which way the decisions go.
