Occasionally I go over to the other side. Y'know, check out the conservative blogs to see their take on what's going on. Saw a post on Redstate that gave me that Schadenfreude feeling. In it, Erickson compares the fuss about Bain to the Birthers. He says it's all overblown and full of exaggerations just like the Birther fuss. Except Mr. Erickson, the Bain stuff is true. There's actually documentation on the record concerning Romney's participation in Bain while he declared that he was out of it. For Redstate to do this, I think that it demonstrates that the Republicans can see that their own politics are being turned against them, and they're scared. See below.
We don't have to go back very far. How's about 2004 when the Kerry ran against an incumbent president? Let's look at that blast from the past vs. the present
2004: Kerry. Main asset - his experience as a war veteran. It was touted as his ace in the hole in a country at war. Instead, it was called into question amid charges of exagerration and opportunism. The time spent countering these charges took away from campaigning against the ruinous policies of Bush.
2012: Romney. Main asset - his status as a business wiz. This is being touted as his best asset that proves he knows how to get the country back to work during this trying time. Except that record is now being exposed and examined critically in light of how he bankrupted companies, outsourced jobs and fudged election records to try to conceal his continuing participation in business.
In 2004, Kerry was said to have been "swiftboated." In 2012, Romney will be "Bained" after everything else comes out about his business history. That's why the Republicans are so concerned about this turn in the campaign. Because when you're explaining the difference between outsourcing and offshoring or that being the head of a company is just a letterhead placement, then you're losing.
The moral is:
Don't be suprised when your campaign techniques are turned back on you and rammed down your throat.
