The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), which I'm hereby designating as an official cause for "Torture without Walls", was subject to a major web outage due to cyber attack.
CCR does a range of great work using legal and moral pressure to oppose police state government tactics. They are action-oriented and have laser-like focus. They have been very active around the Bradley Manning case, for the closure of Guantanamo, and for restrictions on use of solitary confinement and other torture methods inside the walls. Interesting that the cyber attack took them down just as the Manning trial began, and CCR won an important FOIA case.
Here's the full report from CCRs Facebook page:
Friends, as many of you were probably aware, CCR’s main website was under attack last week. In fact, it was in part thanks to you that we learned the full scope of the attack and were able to act quickly. CCR’s site is now back up and running so check out some of the things you missed: our latest filing in Bradley Manning’s trial, a great decision in our Secure Communities FOIA lawsuit and a major victory in our right-to-boycott case in Olympia, WA. Now, do you want to piss off those who keep trying to stop CCR from bringing the fight for social justice to the courts? Here’s how. One casualty of this attack was our fundraising drive In Honor of Michael Ratner’s 40 years with CCR as supporters could not access our site for several days. Help us kick it off again! I urge all readers to use the link at the top of this post to visit their site, see the stories of their recent work, and give if you can.
