Mitt's Epic Fail tour of Foreign Countries now features a serious problem, not just tone-deaf Mitt putting his Gucci's in his mouth.
First: Romney is raising money in Israel (presumably from American citizens), just like in London.
Second: Sheldon Adelson is going to be there.
NYT:
The donors will not attend the meetings that Mr. Romney is having with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, aides said, or other official government events. It was unclear whether Mr. Adelson and others would attend a dinner that Mr. Romney and Mr. Netanyahu are scheduled to have Sunday evening, but donors said that they were invited to attend a speech that Mr. Romney is set to deliver.
For those unfamiliar with Mr. Adelson, he's the casino billionaire who has described himself as "the richest Jew in the world". His most profitable casino is in Macao and therefore depends entirely on the good will of the Chinese government - and, allegedly, the Chinese triad criminal gangs.
From the linked NYT article.
Mr. Adelson, a Zionist who opposes any territorial compromise to make way for a Palestinian state, initially supported Newt Gingrich in the Republican presidential primary because of his forceful defense of Israel. He ultimately got behind Mr. Romney. The two men had a private meeting in May when Mr. Romney was passing through Las Vegas and aides said they have communicated occasionally since then.
The Republican Jewish Coalition, with the financial backing of Mr. Adelson, is preparing a campaign to win over Jewish voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania who supported Mr. Obama four years ago but now have misgivings. Mr. Adelson and his wife also recently each gave $5 million to a “super PAC” supporting the election of Mr. Romney.
The fundraiser is a tony one, per ABC.
The famous hotel located in the center of Jerusalem is walking distance from the Western Wall. The event will be small, with only about 20 to 30 attendees, and it is expected to last until 10 a.m., according to the donor planning the breakfast. The price tag is $50,000 per couple or $100, 000 raised. Only American citizens can donate to campaigns and most of the attendees will be Americans living in Israel or visiting at the time.
Let us be clear: Mr. Adelson is dead-set against a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, and he is going to have immense influence over the Middle East policy of a prospective Romney administration. This is not a healthy development for US foreign policy; can you imagine how this will play in Arab capitals, or on the Arab street?
This isn't funny.
