Last week Louie Gohmert suggested that the tragedy in Colorado could have been prevented if people in the theater were armed. Here's what Gohmert said:
"Well it does make me wonder, you know with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying that could've stopped this guy more quickly?"
Someone should have told Gohmert that it wasn't a good idea to make this statement less than 24 hours after the event - while the deceased were still being carried from the theater.
After Gohmert's misplaced remarks about the massacre in Aurora, I began to think about a few other more recent highlights of his time in office.
Summer of 2010 – Congressman Gohmert takes the House-Floor making unwarranted and outrageous claims of (persumably muslim) women coming to the United States and giving birth - to US citizens - in an effort to raise homegrown terrorists.
According to Gohmert, "It appeared that [the terrorists] would have young women, who became pregnant, would get them into the United States to have a baby, and then they would turn back where they could be raised and coddled as future terrorists... and then one day, twenty, thirty years down the road, they can be sent in to help destroy our way of life.”
Gohmert never provided any evidence and – when pressed on the issue – went berserk on Anderson Cooper in August of 2010.
September of 2011 – after spending months blasting the President's attempt at a bi-partisan jobs bill – Gohmert introduced his own jobs act in the US House.
Here is the full text of Gohmert's bill in its entirety.
The bill contains three simple provisions including – you guessed it – a total repeal of the corporate income tax, the tentative minimum tax, and the alternative minimum tax. Those were the only three provisions in Gohmert's 'jobs' bill. That’s it.
Gohmert's other more recent highlights include, denying climate change, comparing the President and his administration to Adolph Hitler, and claiming that Democrats want to see another terrorist attack on the United States. Ever wonder why the approval rating of Congress is at an all-time low? It's because of members like this.
I cannot believe that the people of Texas's first congressional district have elected this guy four times! Why are we wasting $174,000 a year to foot the salaries of politicians that think like this? Talk about wasteful spending.
Republicans constantly say that if government were run like a private entity, then President Obama – based on his performance – would be fired. But to that I say: if Gohmert was working for a private entity, surely he would have been fired a long time ago.
