Should Bill Donohue and other social conservatives sit out the election? Unfortunately, yes.
Things that make me smile, from Newsmax:
The Romney campaign’s decision to duck the Chick-fil-A controversy over gay-marriage appears to have reopened old wounds with social conservatives, who were never fully sold that the former Massachusetts governor would represent their concerns in the marbled halls of Washington.
“This is the most disheartened that certainly I’ve felt looking at this entire race,” said Catholic League president Bill Donohue. He told Newsmax in an exclusive interview that social conservatives will now have to decide whether to sit out the race.
Dear Wingnuts,
I feel your pain. I would be in agony if I had Mitt Romney as my nominee as well. And what about your party? I mean, the Democrats announce they're all for gay marriage, and not a peep of outrage?
When Democrats announced that their 2012 platform would include a historic first — gay marriage written in as a plank — the reaction from mainstream Republicans was near silence.
There were no statements blasted out from Mitt Romney’s campaign. The same was true for the Republican National Committee. Romney has yet to address the fact.
It's almost like they
agree with the decision! Now that might fill
me up with joy, but you have different priorities than I do. I embrace love and tolerance, while you embrace petty fear, bigotry and hatred. But that's okay. That's why we have two parties in this country.
Except, what happens when your party of fear, bigotry and hatred starts shirking its duty to spread fear, bigotry and hatred of other people? The established order has been upset! This cannot stand!
So yeah, you don't have any choice but to sit out the elections. I suggest you continue clogging up your arteries at Chick-Fil-A instead, because that would make me sad.
Hugs and kisses,
kos
