I haven't seen this diaried yet: Ry Cooder just released his new album, Election Special, just in time for the Republican convention.
The title track is entitled "The Mutt Romney Blues" and it doesn't need much description.
After last year's magnificent Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down, Ry Cooder returns to the political arena with a vengeance as the race for the White House intensifies.
Personally, I like this one even better than Devo's
Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro, just because I'm more of an acoustic, intimate type of tunes type of guy. But it just shows how universally repulsed people are about what Mitt Romney stands for that Devo and Ry Cooder sing about the same thing. I'd love to see the double bill!
The anger, protest and concern is made all the more effective through his use of humour and unexpectedly upbeat melodies. So the opening Mutt Romney Blues takes a swipe at the Republican candidate from the viewpoint of his mistreated dog, while The Wall Street Part of Town offers cheerful, stomping encouragement to protesters.
I'm not sure that
Cuban-loving Ry Cooder is going to sway a lot of elusive swing votes.
But I do know that anyone with a creative, soulful bone in their body cringes at the very idea of Mitt Romney. Which in turns gives them a lot of inspiration.
The slash and burn capitalism that Romney represents is being exposed for the heartless vampire economics that it is from all sides of the societal spectrum.
And, Seamus is finally getting the last laugh.
Woof!
