Contradictions seem to be the norm rather than the exception. Take a look below the fold for a peek at how things work in an alternate universe....
On Republican World, the party of "We Built This" rugged anti-government individualism holds its convention at a venue whose construction was funded mostly (more than 60%) by tax dollars.
On Republican World, the party of "We Built This" rugged ant-government individualism also uses a $50 million dollar government grant to pay for security for it's convention.
On Republican World, NOAA (and science in general) is unnecessary (remember back in early 2011 when some of them voted to defund NOAA?), but their weather related decisions on the convention are based on information from NOAA meteorologists using NOAA weather satellites and equipment.
On Republican World, praising Neil Armstrong and the landing on the moon is all the rage right now, even while most of the people doing the praising want to defund the agency that made the moon landing possible.
On Republican World, increasing energy independence using wind and solar power is bad, but massive subsidies to massive corporations that depend on oil from politically hostile and unstable parts of the world is good.
On Republican World, said massive subsidies to already massively profitable corporations are good, but providing financial safety nets to the unemployed, disadvantaged, and to hungry children are bad.
On Republican World, lady parts can determine which sperm to accept and which to reject (so logically if a woman gets pregnant she must have wanted it, right).
On Republican World, it's perfectly acceptable to say Obama had little to do with the bin Laden raid and criticize any mention of it by him as unseemly and undeserved bragging, whereas it was ok that the previous President strutted around in a flight suit on an aircraft carrier and spoke in front of a giant "Mission Accomplished" banner about how we'd won a war in a country where tens of thousands of people would die over the course of next half-dozen years.
