Just happened to catch the Rev Al Sharpton's show Politics Nation and the Rev Al just showed a clip of Mitt and Ann Romney by FAUXNEWS in which Chris Wallace was what appeared to be an 'observer' as Mitt Romney cooked breakfast for his family - the family appeared on the edge of the frame as Mitt flipped pancakes. The next segment Rev Al jumped to was of Mitt and Ann being 'asked' by Chris Wallace that he has been 'told'( jeezus, for about one second a viewer thinks that we might actually get a question reminiscent of his father Mike Wallace holding a subject's feet to the fire but an instant later that notion is FIRMLY dispelled) that the Romneys like.......Costco.
Why indeedy, yes, they smile and answer, they LOVE Costco - Mitt gets his shirts at Costco...in fact, Mitt IRONED his shirt today and does LAUNDRY!
Why have I written this diary about this seemingly innocuous report?
Because it mirrors almost to a freakin' T what we Massachusetts voters have been subjected to ALL summer long in Scott Brown campaign ads.
Scott Brown's wife, former Boston tv reporter Gail Huff, did an ad early in the year in which she regaled the viewer with how Scott had to get up with the girls and make breakfast for them because she, Gail, had to get to work at something like 2 am so she could report the news( see, he supports women she says and implies strongly) and we watch as images of Scott fly by, especially of Scott doing and folding LAUNDRY. See? He is 'supportive of women' because he can cook breakfast and do laundry. Against women? Why Gail and Ann are appalled at the suggestion. Appalled and indignant - why, we just don't know their husbands.
Is this just a coincidence?
Can I sell you a bridge?
One of the newest Scott Brown ads is one in which he 'invites' the viewer into his truck( that infamous truck bought to drive his daughter's horse around - another 'connection' :horses - but I digress) to go for a ride with him while he goes on and on about his upbringing, his hard work, his mother working, how he won some scholarships to award his athletic ability so that he could achieve a better life( rewarding success).
I am predicting that the same sort of thing will appear at the RNC - somehow we are going to go on a ride with Mitt as he tells us about cruising along in great cars( dear old DAD dontcha know) in his youth and how he worked hard, loved his family, his Church, and was rewarded for all that 'hard work'.
All of this is probably brought to you by the very same ad campaign consultants - we are being sold slick products - products that can do laundry and cook and drive- and that 'support women'.
The fact that they don't really support women or families is immaterial - we are not suppose to look at their voting records and positions on the issues - all WE are suppose to see and internalize is that neatly folded pile of laundry and the fact that Mitt and Scott can flip a pancake.
I tremble for this Republic.
Here's the Scott Brown laundry ad narrated by his wife Gail Huff
I would rather link to Rev Al than FauxNews but i doubt it's up yet - so I will edit and ad( or someone else can put it in the comments if they want to go to FauxNEWS.
And here is the ad that I predict will see a second "Rmoney-ized"version at the RNC:
Don't say you weren't warned when you see it at the RNC~ "Rmoneyized" for the larger audience that is America.
