Well, many of us predicted this would happen. After the RNC was a non-stop lie fest, filled with every form of mendacity possible, many on the left knew exactly how the media would react: by promoting a false equivalency during the DNC.
The AP has a story that takes the cake. Fact Check - Clinton Claims of Compromise a Stretch purports to be a fact check on President Clinton's claim that President Obama has been stymied in his attempts at compromise by the Congressional Republicans.
Instead, it's a nauseating smear job, and the "journalist" who wrote it ought to be ashamed. See the gory details after the fancy cursive looking symbol.
First, the "journalist" states the fact that both parties are responsible for the gridlock in Washington. The proof? President Obama brought in Rahm Ehmannuel as his chief of staff! Are you serious, Matt Apuzzo? The fact checker also states that both parties were equally responsible for the "Grand Bargain" falling apart. Since apparently Mr. Apuzzo was in a drug-induced coma for the last four years, quick recap: President Obama bent over backward, and was willing to push through cuts on foundational Democratic programs: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. Cuts outnumbered new taxes 2 to 1. Republicans refused, and publically stated they would refused a deal even if cuts outnumbered new taxes 10 to 1! And both parties are supposed to be responsible?
Second, the journalist attacks President Clinton for stating that health care costs have risen below inflation for the past 2 years. Now, this is just a true fact, which the "fact checker" cannot deny, so he goes to a favorite method of fact checkers: Oh, well, even though that fact is true, you can't claim responsibility for it, so false. Wait, what? Health care costs have risen every year, in recession or expansion. You can't blow off 2 years in a row of slower rising costs, just because of "uncertainty in the economy." I mean, that's the favorite cousin of the "Job creators aren't hiring because they don't know what taxes will be in 10 years" line. The only thing we know for a fact that is different now, from 2 years ago, is that Obamacare was passed (are we really calling it that now, too?).
I'm going to skip the "fact check" on the 90's economy, and skip straight to very worst part of the article. Bill Clinton quoted the famous line of the Romney campaign, that they wouldn't be dictated by fact checkers. Brave, fearless journalist Matt Apuzzo's fact check response? But-but-but Clinton got a blowjob.
This "fact check" is a joke, and the AP should retract it immediately.

2:28 PM PT: Update 2: A quick ride atop the Rec List, a nod on the Front Page, and the scoop on the story that eventually got the AP Managing Editor to respond (no retraction, alas). Wow! I should do this more often :)
