OK, this has absolutely zero relevance to any serious political discussion.
It's only related to the 2012 election in the most peripheral of ways...namely, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm's rousing DNC speech last week:
It isn't serious. It isn't particularly topical.
It is, however, a whole lot of fun:
The buzz surrounding former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm about her enthusiastic speech to the Democratic National Convention may shift this week as a long-lost copy of her 1978 appearance on “The Dating Game” surfaced on YouTube.
“Let’s give a hand for the cute and curvaceous Jennifer Granholm,” the show’s host, Jim Lange says as a 19-year-old Granholm, complete with big, blonde, Farrah Fawcett-like hair comes on stage to meet her three bachelors.
Fear not: Granholm got a hoot out of seeing herself (well, her hair, anyway...you can barely make her face out from under that mop):
Granholm took the sudden Internet attention in good humor. Her former spokeswoman Liz Boyd sent her a link to the clip. After watching it, Granholm said: “I’m still laughing so hard my stomach still hurts.”
For the record, I like Granholm a lot, although I honestly thought she seemed more comfortable/effective as Michigan Attorney General than she ever did as Governor. She did her best under horrible circumstances. I actually met her once--she invited about 20 Michigan-based progressive political bloggers to a "coffee w/the governor" thing at the Governor's Mansion back in 2006, and was incredibly cordial and down to earth. She even took my coat and hung it up for me herself!
Anyway, I just figured we could all use a bit of comic relief in the midst of the political trench warfare going on.
(OK, break's over...back to your stations, everyone!)
