I'll admit it. I'm somewhat of a Facebook junkie. I've been known to idle away many hours on this social network getting connected with family and friends. I love to post pictures, share news and sports stories, and yes, discuss politics. While a majority of my 1500+ friends lean to the left, I do have some who are tea partying Republicans. I purposely maintain my friendship with them because I've always believed that they bring arguments and viewpoints that are often thought provoking, and in turn, strengthen my own progressive talking points. But in my 'news feed' today, I was disheartened to come across a shared post that crossed the line.
I suppose this was meant to be funny...as many of the responding comments were "lol" and "roflmao". I like a good laugh too, but this was crickets time for me. I really don't know how to begin responding to such contemptible vileness.
The idea of genocide by the use of a nuclear bomb doesn't make me chuckle or shout "AMEN". (That was the caption my FB friend entered go along with this image.)
I have since unfriended and blocked this person from my news feed. This former friend, however, is not alone, however. The post was shared from a site run by someone called, Barack Obama's Dead Fly, on which this image generated hundreds of shares and despicable comments.
This site, like many others on Facebook, is filled with laced with many hateful and downright racist material. I just thought I'd let my fellow Kossacks how much in the gutter some of the political debate has gotten.
