ABC News writer Michael Falcone's essay, "Will Mitt Romney Finally Get the Campaign Reset He’s Been Looking For?" wins my dumbest essay of the day award today. After a pointless intro linking Mitt Romney's doctor's report to the candidate's most recent series of fuck-ups, Falcone turns to Romney's taxes, and gets deep into the stupid:
But the timing of Friday’s document release was no accident. Romney had long pledged to make his 2011 taxes public before the middle of October, but he and his campaign were unwilling to wait that long. That’s because, with a mere 45 days until the Nov. 6 election, Romney and his advisers are finally ready for the re-set that they have so desperately been seeking.
What?
What does that even mean? They've been desperately seeking re-set for a while now, but only now are they prepared to seek re-set? Is Falcone having difficulties because he maybe first wrote this on an Etch-a-Sketch?
Falcone then, a second time, goes over the recent events that have exposed Romney as an incompetent and a plutocrat (my words, not his).
Then this:
And as if to signal their readiness to move on, the campaign circulated statements from elected officials, including Sen. John McCain advising everyone to do just that.
As if Falcone wanted to
signal his readiness to show the world how vacuous his 'analysis' really is, he wrote an article showing everybody just that. Does ABC actually pay this guy?!
And next:
But earlier this week, Gillespie, the Romney adviser who also served in George W. Bush’s White House, said the campaign was still “very optimistic.” One reason: The Republicans are keeping President Obama and his allies on their toes in Wisconsin
where Obama leads in a recent poll by 5%.
Yes, Gillespie, very trustworthy, that guy, let's take his statement at face value and run with it. Impeccable reasoning here.
Next Falcone notes that Obama leads Romney in swing-state polls, including in Ohio polls by 4-7%....
And it’s not just Ohio where the early fall polls are spelling trouble for Republicans.
He notes Obama also leads Romney by 8% in Iowa and in Colorado by..... 5%!
So, Romney is in 'trouble' in Colorado where Obama is up by 5%, and in Ohio by as little as 4%, but Romney is keeping Obama 'on his toes' in WI where polls show Obama up by 5%.
And that, folks, is today's corporate media steaming pile of dumb, courtesy ABC News.
