I'm weary of giving this any publicity which is not negative. You simply can't do it this way. YOU CAN'T.
Honestly, I'm weary of posting this at all. But I think we should know about it so we can start thinking about what the hell to do about it. From where I'm standing, this cannot stand. It is completely unacceptable and we should reject it forthwith. Many will not agree with that sentiment.
Per my sigline, below the fold is rank incompetence.
Pakistan's Federal Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, from the Peshawar Press Club:
The American who produced the sacrilegious film in the U.S. is also liable to death and we will shower dollars on the one who killed the blasphemer. If members of the banned militant organizations kill the maker of the blasphemous movie, they will also be rewarded
Also, from
NBC World News, Bilour
called for legislation to have the anti-blasphemy law at the global level so that no one could hurt the religious emotions of the Muslims in the name of the freedom of expression.
He said the situation would remain tense until anti-blasphemy law was enacted at the world level.
I condemn this "filmmaker" and this "film" of his. I think a better label for that drivel would be "incendiary grenade to be tossed into a drought-ridden woodland". I am deeply disturbed by what the man's motives seem to be. The whole thing stinks of provocation, and I would frankly be favorably disposed to the man facing charges for whatever prosecuters may be able to dig up on him.
But this is bad, BAD bad. I like it not at all. What this fool did was deliberate, destructive and disgusting; but he's a human being, and an American. In the words of Paul Atreides; he has a human shape, and deserves human doubt. What's more, by "banned militant organizations" Minister Biroul is referring to enemies of the United States. What he's doing could be seen as inciting them. We will and should speak out against this.
But doing so will carry problems of its own.
As for a global anti-blasphemy law? Um.... no. I hope the guy was just talking out of his ass on that, though I fear that on both fronts the damage may already have been done.
Fucking rock and a hard place, underwater.
