Mediaite has a story about tonight's Hardball on which Chris Mathews had on Eugene Robinson and Alex Wagner to discuss the racially charged attacks on President Obama coming from Republicans and the undertone of racism coming out of the Romney campaign. Matthews ran a number of clips showing Republicans, including Newt Gingrich, John Sununu, and Donald Trump making disparaging remarks about Obama.
Wagner said about Romney:
“He’s playing the lowest card in the deck, which is racially-charged, incendiary rhetoric that is designed to stoke hatred and foment, I guess, enthusiasm to get folks out to the polls,” Wagner concluded.
The video runs for eight minutes. I tried to embed it here but I can't get it to work. The link is

Toward the end:
...Matthews played a clip of Sen. John McCain telling a supporter at a town hall that Obama was not an Arab after she suggested it. Matthews said “every time I see this – and I see it infrequently – I cry.”
I got the clip Matthews was referring to from YouTube
I realize that John McCain has abandoned his own integrity at times, but what Matthews was taken by is that McCain's response was a gut reaction, a from the heart reply, something we see rarely anymore in politics.
"That's honor", Eugene Robinson said
