I wrote this, actually, for an non-Kos audience, but my facebook friends seem to like it, and so if the Kos community can help get it to a wider audience, I'd really appreciate it.

I hope everyone had a nice holiday. Sometimes I wish I wasn't such an Keynesian economic nazi but please remember the Nixon health plan when deciding your vote next election. Remember that Ike planned federal highways. Remember that Nixon (him again?) imposed wage and price controls, which would send today's tea party into a foot biting frenzy.
Remember the taxes of 30 years ago, and ask yourself how even a one percent increase would help erase the fear the current Republicans insist on pushing onto you, like doctors pushing pharmaceuticals that Rush Limbaugh would kill for.
Ask yourself, before you vote Republican, if you really want a war with Iran, which is a country full of very nice people. Most of them young and who love ipods.
Consider the cost. There are conflicting numbers, but as best as I have seen, the cost of the illegal war against Iraq was upwards of 1 trillion, if you consider health costs. That almost caused a depression.
Oh, and by the way, if you know a veteran who fought there? Take care of him. Give him/her a blanket, since our government, especially a Republican-governed one, won't. Kiss him/her on the forehead and tell him/her that we really DO appreciate their sacrifice.
And, if I have not convinced you yet of the horrors that will come if you vote Republican, buy guns.
You will need them as the country falls apart, and the only people skilled with guns, truly skilled, will be pissed off veterans. You will want to avoid these people. Their anger will make your current frustrations seem as trivial as they really are.
And if you are unemployed? And you want to blame Obama? Well, it hurts to be unemployed, it really does, but don't blame a guy who inherited a near depression, and had the brains to know that killing the auto industry would have killed America, even tho the auto industry had made its own grave.
Are you unemployed? God bless you, and your family. You are the strength of this great country. I'm with you. I have often been at the precipice. I know this. I know how hard it is to lift your head off the pillow when all hope is lost, and wonder, "why I do I even bother." I know how it is to feel gravel in my pocket, wishing there was money there, instead.
God, I hated those moments, and there is no real answer when you feel that. But, just, don't vote against yourself. Don't vote for people who want to finish you off. Don't vote for people who want to destroy you, and hide when you speak.
