Don't forget we're going sparkin' live for Keith's coverage of the SOTU tomorrow night; we can also finalize bets on which GOBP is going to be a rude boil on the butt of humanity & shout something in the middle of it. ;D
It's time for "this day in history." On this date in 1937, seventeen people went on trial in Moscow during Soviet leader Josef Stalin's Great Purge. Me thinks they didn't go home afterwards & live happily ever after, either. Uh...hmmm...since most of the rest of the items are as depressing as Stalin's paranoia, let's quit while we're behind.
Let's Countdown!
And, we get David Shuster pinch - hitting for Keith tonight - muchas grassy a$$! :)
#5 "On the Attack" AKA "Get Newt!" - Newtie won in SC the other night by appealing to the lowest common denominator; stoking anger & outrage at the media and diverting from the real issues of the day works wonders there. Now, with FL just over a week away, the knives between Mittens & Newtie will only sharpen - so much for St. Ronnie Reagan's 11th commandment! ;D They are essentially tied in most national polls. Mittens has accused Newtie of being a lobbyist; Newtie is accusing Mittens of panicking. Newt has released his contract with Fannie Mae; Mittens is releasing 2 years of tax returns. Man on Dog is dissing everyone! Newtie said with a straight face that he wasn't part of the DC establishment; THAT takes talent! ;D Joe Williams gets MENSA duty & what could bode in FL. He thinks Newt could do well there. There's another MENSA meeting on the television machine? OK - another one I get to miss. :) We could get interesting details about Newtie's obligations to Fannie Mae, and we might just learn not only Mittens' tax rate but just how stinkin' rich he is. The Gingrich SuperPAC got another $5 million from the wife of the casino dude who donated that much coin a few weeks ago. Why don't I have friends who'll give me $5 million?! ;D Craig Crawford's back from his Saturday night appearance to talk about Newt's "anti - establishment DC" creds. By the way, he's not buying it. :) It's all about appealing to tea baggers, boys & girls. Newt's tax plan would cut his own taxes by a half million dollars? Convenient! Craig said Mittens is in full - blown panic mode. He told hecklers to "take a hike"? HA! Yea, I bet that put the fear of Gawd into them.
#4 "The People's 'Union'" AKA "State of the Union" - Tomorrow's SOTU might actually sound a little Occupy - ish. If the speech is a "book end" to his speech in KS, the looks on Speaker Sobber's face tomorrow night could be priceless; HE might be the one to shout out! :) He actually used the word "pathetic" on FAUX News. I wonder if President Obama will remind him of that tomorrow night? And, there's Not - My - Man Mitch who's all prepped & ready to give the GOBP response - BRILLIANT timing, I must say! Rep. Lynn Woolsey is previewing tomorrow night's speech. She thinks he needs to tomorrow night strike a clear difference between the 99% and the 1%. If she's waiting to hear the war in Afghanistan will end early, she might be waiting awhile. Congress critters have been encouraged to sit with folk not of their party again? Well, THAT'LL solve everything!
"Time Marches On!" - A little baby had a hell of a surprised look about SOMETHING. AAAAaaaaaWWWWwwww! There's a kitty in a drawer! And, a doggie went ape $hit in a corn field.
#3 "Crude Response" AKA "Complex System Fail" - Remember that Deep Water Horizon oil spill & the fact that for the longest damn time, no one claimed to know just how much oil was spilling into the Gulf?! Even the White House tried to downplay how bad the spill was?! Oh goody! *&^%$#@! Kate Sheppard gets spill clean - up. How much coin BP will be fined is entirely dependent on an accurate number of gallons of oil that was spilled. Ugh...seeing those pictures again is making my stomach clench. How much longer are we going to have to wait for criminal charges?!
#2 "Say Anything" - Newt's been fibbing about President Obama being a "food stamp President"?! What??!! Newt lie???!!! Say it ain't so! President Obama is NOT the "food stamp President." That honor goes to GWB. The number of food stamp recipients has actually gone down. The stim bill made more people eligible for food stamps.
#1 "Stepping Down" AKA "Leaving for Now" - Rep. Gabby Giffords will attend SOTU tomorrow night, but that will be one of her last official acts in Congress. She announced over the weekend that she's resigning this week to focus on her continued recovery. I'm sad, but I can't say I'm surprised. I know lots of people wish her well, and maybe she'll be back once she's better! :) She was in her Tucson office to finish the event where she was shot. Redistricting will change her district. Her husband's been encouraged to run but declined. Rep. Loretta Sanchez served on a committee with Rep. Giffords; she wasn't surprised at the announcement. Her being on the House floor tomorrow night will be something.
