I almost had one of those life-changing moments this morning. No, not one of those feel-good times in life that one looks back upon fondly. I'm talking about one of those moments when you burn your sinus and nasal cavities as a result of spitting coffee through your nose. It happened when I saw this headline on "the" Politico:
Mitt Romney: Obama tells ‘tall tales’
Let's be honest. Mitt Romney accusing ANYONE of stretching the truth is right up there with Newt Gingrich blaming someone for the poisonous partisanship in Washington. Mitt, he of:
“We’ve got a president in office three years, and he does not have a jobs plan yet. I’ve got one out there already and I’m not even president, yet.”
and...
“...don’t forget who it was that cut Medicare by $500 billion. And that was President Obama, to pay for Obamacare.”
or...
“[I'm] someone who’s lived in the real streets of America.”
also...
“I know what it’s like to worry whether you’re gonna get fired. There were a couple of times I wondered whether I was going to get a pink slip.”
and the Big Daddy of them all...
“He apologizes for America.”
This man, Mitt Romney, is the same person who says that the President wants to make America into a European, Kenyan, Socialist, Atheistic, Marxist, Islamic utopia. He says that President Obama wants to "to redistribute wealth and create ‘equal outcomes’ regardless of individual effort and success." This man, Mitt Romney, says “I’ve still got the same positions on the issues I had four years ago."
And it's this man, Mitt Romney, who is accusing the President of the United States of "telling tall tales."
What "tall tales" does he accuse the President of spinning?
“President Obama believes he ranks among the four best presidents in history."
Another
Romney tall tale. He goes on:
“Instead of solving the housing crisis and getting Americans back to work, President Obama has been building a European-style welfare state,” Romney said. “He has pushed for a second stimulus and deep cuts to our national defense. He’s asking the American people for another trillion dollars – and another term in office.”
More of the same.
The best thing about the Politico article is that it points out that Romney is actually lying... I guess the "tall tale" thing is catching, because now I'm even writing them! Of course there's no mention of this. In fact, they give a tacit endorsement of more Romney lies, calling his claims about his Bain job-creation numbers as part of his "biography."
Romney will continue telling lies as loudly and as often as he can, as long as the media and the citizenship continue to allow him to. I, for one, am tired of it. I hope the media catches on soon.
