It wouldn't necessarily mean that Wisconsin gets out from under the yoke of his administration, or the right-wing agenda foisted on the once-progressive state by outside conservative funders, advocacy groups, ALEC and others with a larger vested interest in using the state as a test pad for the privatization of services and Grover Norquist's shrunken, drowned public sector.
An ongoing John Doe probe Thursday rolled outfresh criminal chargesagainst former Milwaukee County Executive staffers and campaign operatives working for or near Scott Walker, now Wisconsin's governor.
Today's charges also reveal the existence of a secret email system used by Walker operatives that defeated the intent of the state's Open Records law.
Those of you old enough to remember Watergate will immediately see the similarity to the revelation of Richard Nixon's secret taping system- - and the dangers politically and legally for Walker, under probable recall, and his people - - charged, immunized or threatened - - as a result of its surfacing now.
This is serious stuff, and more charges are expected, as the Doe probe gets closer to Walker.
That said, it's clear that Walker and his coterie of advisers and funders must be thinking about how all this could play out, and whether it's in the group's ideological interest for Walker to continue service, or to face the recall election, when there may be a way for the agenda to be furthered with a resignation that would install an equally-reactionary Lt. Gov. as Governor.
I laid out my case at my blog, here.
Walker is a pawn in the right's national game, and its financiers and strategists could keep their capture of Wisconsin going, while taking care of Walker unless he got too toxic to handle.
