Today, down by the Blue Bell Ice Cream cows in Brenham, Texas, a meeting is taking place that could have a large impact on the upcoming elections. I did a search and hadn’t seen anything about it here.
Influential Christian leaders look for consensus candidate to stop Romney
Some of the nation's leading religious conservative leaders are gathering this weekend in Texas in an effort to consolidate a fractured GOP electorate around a single presidential candidate who best expresses their views. "One thing unites all in this group - Romney is not their guy," said one of the participants...
This article, from the Dallas Morning News on Wednesday, says they want a candidate who “won’t abandon their issues when he becomes president.”
This says a lot about the Romney’s real chances of getting the nomination. Romney is clearly the frontrunner, yet here are the leaders of a large part of the GOP meeting to choose someone else to rally around. The people invited to this meeting are impressive:
Among those invited are Faith in the Family founder James Dobson , Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, Christian Zionist leader John Hagee of San Antonio, Kelly Shackelford of the Plano-based Liberty Legal Institute and Don Wildmon, whose American Family Association sponsored Rick Perry's day-long prayer rally in Houston…
When I considered writing a diary about this, I thought would have to warn you about the comments. Usually they are mostly conservative, with a splash of right-wing-crazy. I was astonished to read how many people, HERE IN TEXAS, were not too happy about this meeting. I was actually cheered up reading those!
I’ll be watching to see if anything else is reported about the outcome of this meeting. Who do you think will be their "consensus candidate"?
