When I get bored with our bubble, I like to travel over to RW sites and read what's going on over there in their bubble. I don't know why...kinda like going to the zoo, I guess. At RedState this morning they were all in a Big Tizzy about NH state senator, Gary Lambert, who is also a Romney spokesperson, telling other Republicans to STFU and get in line behind Romney. There's even a video, which some of the comments said was creepy, but I didn't watch it, just read his words and enjoyed the absolute outrage expressed in the comments at Redstate. Then, I went over to Allapundit's Blog and enjoyed the outrage from those dear peoples. This first link is to CNSNews.com "The RIGHT News, RIGHT now." Uh huh.

Here is a partial transcript: I think his full exhortation is in the video linked above:
______
(CNSNews.com) - New Hampshire State Sen. Gary Lambert, speaking for the presidential campaign of former Massachusetts Gov. Romney, told the Nashua New Hampshire Republican City Committee that this year's first-in-the-nation primary is not about liking a candidate, “It’s not even about picking someone with your own beliefs and principles. This is about picking a person that can beat Barack Obama, period.”
“Rather than go on with the blah, blah, blah. I’d like to get right to the point. Which is--Look, we know how this movie is going to end. Mitt Romney is going to be the nominee,” Lambert said.
“This is not about picking your favorite, it’s not about picking someone you like. It’s not about picking someone even with your own beliefs and principles. This is about picking a person that can beat Barack Obama, period.” Earlier Lambert said, “The way I look at it, the sooner we get it over with the better. We can save the money because in the end, guess who we’re after? We’re after Barack Obama.”

Is it just me, or is telling people that it doesn't matter if you don't agree with a certain candidate's beliefs & positions, just vote for him anyway, because he has an R after his name...is kinda like waving a red flag at the RW base? Well, that's the way the base took it....and they were highly insulted, rah rah. If interested you can go on over to those two RW sites I mentioned and take a look at the comments....it would do your heart good. Quite a few expressed the thought that they were Conservatives First, Republicans Second. By God. A few thought they just wouldn't vote for Romney at all, even in the General. Good. Quite a few hoped that Ron Paul and New Gingrich will form a 3rd party for Real Conservatives.
Another very interesting piece that got the base talking, and got them angry all over again was by Jay Cost in the Weekly Standard:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/...
He asks why there is NEVER a Conservative as the Presidential nominee of the GOP? His answer: The elite, established, moderate (sometimes even liberal) entrenched Republicans have the game rigged so that the Conservatives cannot get traction with a Conservative candidate. As he is blathering on, he says this: "On top of this, there is strong evidence that primary voters are not very well informed. A shocking number make up their minds at virtually the last minute and spend more time focusing on personalities than issues." Well, no shit Sherlock, that's your Teaparty base in a nutshell. He concludes with this paragraph:
"And this, my dear readers, is why the conservative party never seems able to nominate a conservative candidate. The rules of the nomination game favor candidates who have the insider connections, can garner positive coverage from the media, can appeal to non-ideological and poorly informed voters, and who can win perhaps just a third of the vote in the early rounds. Such candidates are rarely the conservatives. Put another way: conservatives consistently lose because they are not actually in charge of their own party."

Much teeth gnashing about his article....all in the vein of: We are told to vote for the man with the (R) behind his name, even if he is a RINO, because at least he is better than a Democrat would be. But if we want to get rid of the RINOs in the party so that a TRUE Conservative can be nominated, maybe we would be better off not voting for the RINO at all.
Hmmm. I was wondering if many of the RW Base would just say, fuck it, and stay home this election rather than vote for Romney, and from the looks of some their websites, I think that's probably a Yes. Mo Bettah for us I think. (It also struck me how "our side" goes thru the same arguments, angst about our candidates that their side goes thru...like 2 halves of the same coin, sometime.)
